Is stock lending halal?
Answered by the ShariaQuant team
No. When a broker lends out your shares, you hand them over, you are owed the same number back later, and you are paid a fee for the time they were gone, which is the same structure that makes lending crypto for a yield riba. Lending programmes are usually opt-in or can be switched off, and that is the fix. Any fee you have already received goes to charity in full, without counting it as sadaqah.
Lending for a return, from Aave to NexoThis is Shariah screening and education, not financial advice. Rulings on newer products differ between scholars, so where a question is disputed we say so rather than pick a side for you. If your situation is unusual, ask your own scholar.
