Mufti Faraz Adam

Mufti Faraz Adam is the founder and head of Shariah advisory at Amanah Advisors. He completed a six-year Alimiyyah programme in the UK, specialised in ifta in Durban, South Africa, and holds a master's in Islamic finance, banking and management from Newman University and AAOIFI's CSAA qualification. His 2017 paper "Bitcoin: Shariah Compliant?" reasoned that "Bitcoin does seem to be Māl (wealth) with Taqawwum (legal value), however, it does not possess Thamaniyyah (currency attributes)." On DarulFiqh he later wrote: "Bitcoins are in the ruling of a currency. They will be a currency as long as people use and exchange them. As a result, Zakat will be compulsory on Bitcoin due to their monetary nature and Thamaniyyah." His research paper "Is Crypto Halal?" (July 2026) examines how classical rules of property and rights apply to digital assets. For the Shariyah Review Bureau he researched individual coins, peer-reviewed by Mufti Irshad Ahmad and Shaikh Muhammad Ahmad. ShariaQuant's screening draws on his published framework.
