Is Citrea (CTR) halal or haram?
Not screened yet
We have not run our Shariah screening on Citrea yet, so we are not giving a ruling on this page. What is below is what we have gathered and checked ourselves, without any AI: where the coin lives, its supply, what its own blockchain says about who can freeze or create coins, and the project's own documents.
What it is
Citrea is the first ZK rollup that settles directly on Bitcoin, verifies zero-knowledge proofs on-chain through BitVM, and preserves Bitcoin-level security while enabling fully programmable smart contracts through its in-house Type 2 zkEVM.
The basics
- Where it lives
- token on citrea (also on base)
- Circulating supply
- 1,500,000,000 CTR
- Maximum supply
- 10,000,000,000 CTR
- Category
- Smart Contract Platform, Layer 2 (L2), Base Ecosystem
What it runs, and where its revenue goes
Per DefiLlama on 2026-09-23, Citrea Staking runs one product line: Citrea Staking (Governance Incentives).
DefiLlama does not track revenue to token holders for Citrea Staking.
Figures from DefiLlama. Whether any of this income is permissible is part of our screening.
Who controls the coins
Read from the token's verified contract on Citrea (0x547afd93b9c47d552059feb556909e017f8a9b25) on 2026-09-23: no function in the contract can block, freeze, move or burn a holder's tokens, or pause transfers. It also has mint (held by the contract DAO (0xa941…6419)); what these allow is checked at screening. It is not upgradeable.
Whether anyone can freeze a holder's balance, or create new coins, is part of our screening. This much is read straight from the blockchain, so it is already established before any screening runs.
