Is Livepeer (LPT) halal or haram?
Not screened yet
We have not run our Shariah screening on Livepeer yet, so we are not giving a ruling on this page. What is below is what we have gathered and checked ourselves, without any AI: where the coin lives, its supply, what its own blockchain says about who can freeze or create coins, and the project's own documents.
What it is
The Livepeer project aims to deliver a live video streaming network protocol that is fully decentralized, highly scalable, crypto token incentivized, and results in a solution which can serve as the live media layer in the decentralized development (web3) stack.
The basics
- Where it lives
- token on ethereum (also on harmony-shard-0, arbitrum-one)
- Circulating supply
- 49,688,955 LPT
- Total supply
- 49,688,955 LPT
- Launched
- 2018-10-01
- Category
- Artificial Intelligence (AI), Harmony Ecosystem, Arbitrum Ecosystem
What it runs, and where its revenue goes
Per DefiLlama on 2026-09-22, Livepeer runs one product line: Livepeer (Video Infrastructure, $91K in fees over 30 days).
Per DefiLlama on 2026-09-22, $91K reached Livepeer token holders in the last 30 days (Livepeer $91K). How, in DefiLlama's words: All the fees go to orchestrators and delegators who stake LPT tokens.
Figures from DefiLlama. Whether any of this income is permissible is part of our screening.
Who controls the coins
Read from the token's verified contract on Ethereum (0x58b6a8a3302369daec383334672404ee733ab239) on 2026-09-22: no function in the contract can block, freeze, move or burn a holder's tokens, or pause transfers. It also has mint (held by the contract BridgeMinter (0x8ddd…b405)); what these allow is checked at screening. It is not upgradeable.
Whether anyone can freeze a holder's balance, or create new coins, is part of our screening. This much is read straight from the blockchain, so it is already established before any screening runs.
