Is Zest Protocol (ZEST) halal or haram?
Not screened yet
We have not run our Shariah screening on Zest Protocol yet, so we are not giving a ruling on this page. What is below is what we have gathered and checked ourselves, without any AI: where the coin lives, its supply, what its own blockchain says about who can freeze or create coins, and the project's own documents.
What it is
$ZEST is the native token of Zest Protocol, the leading lending protocol across Bitcoin L2s and now expanding to Bitcoin L1 with Bitcoin Collateral Vaults.
The basics
- Where it lives
- token on binance-smart-chain (also on ethereum, base, stacks)
- Circulating supply
- 146,000,000 ZEST
- Maximum supply
- 1,000,000,000 ZEST
- Category
- Decentralized Finance (DeFi), BNB Chain Ecosystem, Lending/Borrowing Protocols
What it runs, and where its revenue goes
Per DefiLlama on 2026-09-23, Zest runs 2 product lines: Zest V2 (Lending, $16K in fees over 30 days); Zest V1 (Lending, $1K in fees over 30 days).
Per DefiLlama on 2026-09-23, no revenue reached Zest token holders in the last 30 days.
Figures from DefiLlama. Whether any of this income is permissible is part of our screening.
Who controls the coins
Read from the token's verified contract on BNB Chain (0x5506599c722389a60580b5213ea1da60d64754a1) on 2026-09-23: no function in the contract can block, freeze, move or burn a holder's tokens, or pause transfers. The contract has no function that creates tokens, so no new supply can be created. It is not upgradeable.
Whether anyone can freeze a holder's balance, or create new coins, is part of our screening. This much is read straight from the blockchain, so it is already established before any screening runs.
