Are binary options halal?
Answered by the ShariaQuant team
No. A binary option pays a fixed amount if the price ends up on the side you picked and takes your whole stake if it does not, so nothing is bought and one side wins what the other loses. That is a wager on a price, and studying the chart first does not change the contract. Islamweb, Islam Question & Answer and Indonesia's DSN-MUI all rule it out.
Every ruling on binary options, with sourcesThis is Shariah screening and education, not financial advice. Rulings on newer products differ between scholars, so where a question is disputed we say so rather than pick a side for you. If your situation is unusual, ask your own scholar.
