Is CFD trading halal?

Answered by the ShariaQuant team

No. A contract for difference never gives you the asset: you and the broker agree to settle the change in price between opening and closing, and no currency, gold or coin ever moves to you. With no ownership there is no sale, and what remains is a contract that pays out on an outcome, where your gain is someone else's loss. A swap-free account removes the overnight interest and leaves that first problem exactly where it was.

Why a CFD is not a purchase

This is Shariah screening and education, not financial advice. Rulings on newer products differ between scholars, so where a question is disputed we say so rather than pick a side for you. If your situation is unusual, ask your own scholar.
