Religious Decree No. 4205 of 28 December 2017, under Grand Mufti Shawki Allam, declared dealing in Bitcoin forbidden, citing uncertainty, fraud, harm to individuals, criminal use, and the state's prerogative over currency. Allam also said cryptocurrencies needed further in-depth study.
