Mufti Taqi Usmani

Mufti Taqi Usmani (Hanafi), former Supreme Court judge of Pakistan's Shariat Appellate Bench and former Vice President of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, is the most prominent dissenting voice. In an endorsed statement dated May 10, 2021, he said: "For now, we are not satisfied with it. It is mostly being used for speculative purposes. Personally, I won't recommend it. Rather it seems to be impermissible in principle. However, it could happen that in the future, its use may expand for real trade and we might have to revisit the current decision."
